Carolina Gardens by Del Webb
Thursday June 13 4p "This presentation is built on first-hand experience from Basil and his colleagues at Leaf & Limb and Project Pando since 2010. During the first portion of this presentation, we will examine how the systems of photosynthesis and soil formation work and how they affect water, carbon, and all other life on land. We will also discuss how we are damaging these systems, which provides the foundation for what follows. The remainder of this presentation will be focused on the new paradigms and practices we can implement that help heal Earth. We’ll begin with the easiest concepts that we can implement quickly on our properties, like planting saplings and saving mature trees. Then we’ll move to some more challenging, more impactful approaches, like planting pocket forests and replacing our lawns with native meadows. Finally, for those who want to help shift paradigms even more, we discuss how we can work with our communities to gather native seeds, raise them into trees, and give them away for free. This is the Project Pando model, which makes native plants more widely available while bringing people together through a shared sense of purpose and community. Whether we plant one tree or inspire our entire community to do the same, every step is one in the right direction."
