Journey behind the Iron Curtain
Gerry Fischer invites you on a captivating journey through the lands once veiled by the Iron Curtain, venturing deep into the heart of Transylvania and onward to the shores of the Black Sea—a voyage rich in history, resilience, and cultural discovery.
Starting our journey in Bucharest, Romania's capital, we experienced its eclectic mix of modern life and historic charm. From the imposing Palace of the Parliament to the charming old town district with its cobblestone streets and vibrant nightlife, Bucharest offers a unique window into Romania's past and present.
Then, off to Transylvania—a region steeped in legend and folklore. Visiting places like Bran Castle, often linked with the Dracula legend. The Carpathian Mountains' breathtaking scenery and the fortified churches scattered throughout the region provide a rich tapestry of natural and architectural beauty.
In Constanta at the Black Sea, we boarded our Viking River Boat. The Black Sea coast, particularly in Constanta, offered a stark contrast with its ancient history and beachside allure. Constanta, known for its Roman mosaics and the iconic Casino building, blends seaside relaxation with deep historical roots.
Cruising up the Danube River from the Black Sea to Vienna has been an unforgettable experience, weaving through a tapestry of cultures, landscapes, and historical sites. The Danube, Europe's second-longest river, flows through several countries and offered a unique perspective on the diverse regions it touches. From the Iron Gates Gorge to the cultural landmarks of Budapest, and finally, the elegance of Vienna, each stop on our journey has brought new stories and experiences.
Feel free to bring snacks/drinks to enjoy during the meeting!
